Am I wrong?

OK, So I order this head assembly from this guy on ebay, wait nearly a week and a half for it to come. It comes today and I am jacked about getting this thing together and in the water in time for the nice 3 day, memorial day weekend. I take it out of the crate and it is the head only with no valves in it! Here is the ebay listing http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/e...80335641076&ssPageName=ADME:X:RTQ:MOTORS:1123 Am I right thinking that this head assembly was complete with valves? I know they state in the listing that the pictures may not represent the product, but the Quicksilver part number is for a "head assembly" with valves not just a head. Thoughts?

Re: Am I wrong?

Have you contacted the seller?

That should be the first step with this type problem.

Re: Am I wrong?

Every place I look when I google that part number shows the head with the valves. I guess I will take my old valves to the guy that inspected my head and have him put the old valves in the new head. Man, I am bummed!

Re: Am I wrong?

They are closed but I emailed him.

Before it get's all out of control with this posts yelling lawyer and bad ebay ratings, get his feedback. He has a 100% approval rating, I really don't think he wants to loose that over a $300 part.
He does say that it corrisponds with the Sierra 18-4489, and here is a site that says what is included with the sierra number http://www.firstchoicemarine.com/p-27012-sierra-cylinder-head-assembly-gm-25-30l-18-4489.aspx
But look at the price difference.

Re: Am I wrong?

I didn't look up the part numbers that he cross referenced, but I would say that the listing was for a rebuilt head. I would get a hold of him and see if it was a mistake, or if that is what he intended to ship to you. If he says that the one he sent is correct, return it and find one somewhere else. If he gives you trouble about returning it, you can open a complaint with ebay. I would think that they will take your side, as it is listed as a rebuilt part, not a casting.

But just like Don said, I would think that the guy will work with you.

The posting states:
Pictures are for illustration only and may vary from actual unit.
No Returns Accepted.
Please read all the information below before purchasing this item.
Please contact us if you have questions regarding items.

From the picture I would have thought it was a complete cylinder head.
Nowhere in the posting is there a statement about valves, springs, retainers or keepers.
I don't want to be the bearer of bad tidings, but as you know now, a simple email prior to purchase would have solved this.
Yes, the cost is high for a bare cylinder head.

Re: Am I wrong?

I am giving him the benefit of the doubt. I did email him before hand and asked if he could inspect it before I made an offer, since he said there may be some surface rust. He did and said it wasn't in bad shape at all, just had some light rust around the valve stems, yes he said around the valve stems, not the valve stem guides or seats, the valve stems he said. I'll wait to hear back from him, like Don said, I am sure he will work with me. Wouldn't be so bad if it was the middle of winter!

Re: Am I wrong?

Just so I have an idea, what is a fair price for just a remanned head casting with no valves?

Re: Am I wrong?

I would've imagined the title to be different if it was just the head. It says, Head "Assembly".....??
I'm sure somebody made a mistake, but I would imagine he'll make it right somehow.

I am giving him the benefit of the doubt.

Here's what their description indicates:

Condition: Remanufactured: A properly rebuilt automotive part. The item has been completely disassembled, cleaned, and examined for wear and breakage. Worn out, missing or non-functioning components have been replaced with new or rebuilt components. It is the functional equivalent of a new part and is virtually indistinguishable from a new part. See the seller?s listing for full details.
You need to contact them and try to resolve it. They have a 100% feedback rating. At least give them the ability to "fix" the problem before you pull out the bad-feedback "card" or complain to ebay etc.....

Cheers,

Rick

Re: Am I wrong?

We agreed on a partial refund. Long story short - I don't think he realized that it was not a complete assembly. I found a guy local that is putting new valves, springs, lapping them and all for me. Still doesn't get me on the water for the holiday weekend, but being the newbie that I am, I guess it would be better to stay off the busy water anyway!
