aluminum or glass?

I'm going to buy a used boat mainly for fishing, but also for some Sunday fun. I would like aluminum, but have been told that the wood floors rot out after 15 - 20 years, & a big job to replace. Glass on the other hand is heavier but more durable. As I'm looking at boats in the 10 - 15 year old range, I am unsure what to buy.

Why 15 to 20 years old.Idon't know your budget but there are a lot of boats for sale which are newer.

Howdy, RRK.

Wooden floors and stringers in glass boats may rot, too. Don't reject aluminum because of that.

Either type will last many more than 20 years if well cared for. Either will present rot problems if neglected, particularly if there is carpet to hold moisture against it and prevent quick drying.

Good luck.

Red sky at night. . .
JB :)

RRK,

J.B. speaks the truth. The same rules apply to glass. Any of them with care will last a long time. If your buying used, just make sure there aren't any soft spots to begin with.

Some AL boats do not use wood in the floors. The last Lowe I owned had an all AL floor.
