I am replacing the carpet on my bunks and when I went to go buy some galvanized nails to use to attached the carpeting I noticed that my local hardware store has aluminum-roofing nails. I am wondering if there is any downside to using them instead of galvanized nails. Aluminum does not rust but I have never heard about any using them before. Any comments?

Jim

Alum. nails dont have the strength. If you miss hit it witha hammer it is garbage. The heads can also wear or pop off.I would go with galv screws so they cant back out and the are easy to remove if you ever have to.Charlie

I just redid my bunks, the same way I did dad's old trailer 5 years ago. I used contact cement. No nails or screws. Seems to hold just fine, with no adverse effects.

Start with one edge only. Make sure you get it on straight, cause you ain't gonna move it once it is stuck. Then coat the rest of the bunk and wrap it around.

when I recarpeted my bunkboards I not only glued them but I stapled them with an arrow staple gun using MONEL staples. They will never rust out.
