Want to get @50' of dock that I can set in place and leave there/adjust as needed as water level lowers during the season. That led me to look at 16' sections with adjustable screw legs. At first, seemed like a good idea but now concerned about how the adjustable legs on these docks hold up over time. They are $300-400 each and the convenience won't be worth it if they lock up/break every 5-10 years.
Surprised to find no mfr that describes the quality/construction/materials/maintenance of their screw legs. Seems like an obvious potential failure point, and know that mixing water with multiple alloys (ie: galvanized and alum) is recipe for failure. Did find a reference that in 2007 Floe stopped using steel and went to aluminum for their threaded rod.
See that Hewitt has winch/cable/pulleys, but wonder how trouble-free that design is over time (binding when slides on rails?).
Anyone have long-term experience with the above adjustable docks? (10+yr?).
The legs are apparently packed with grease? Is there normally a grease fitting, or disassembly required annually to grease?
Are these docks as convenient as advertised, or should I just get the standard sliding "tube in tube" with locking bolt?
I'm in NY if any recommendations for mfr. There's the big mfrs like ShoreMaster, and found there's also many regional mfrs.
Thanks for your time.
