Aluminum 12’

I have a 12’ aluminum boat. In excellent condition. As of now I have a 2015 mercury 5hp four stroke. I looked at the plate at the back and motor size 5 - 7hp. Would I be over doing it with a 9.9hp. It’s V shape on the front. I think I could plane

I had a 12' Alumacraft that my 7.5 pushed out nicely. Ran that engine on a 10' Lowes Lake John too....Lake Johns are high sided and wider than ragular Johns. I thought many times of seeing what 9.9 would do to either. Were it not for having to buy one I would know the answer. If you can put a 33 HP Johnson on a 14' Alumacraft and enjoy the ride, I don't know why you couldn't put a 10 hp on a 12'.....other than what the sticker says and it's implications.

Forgot to mention the year of the boat, likely in the early 70’s. the boat is very solid no leaks. Most of the time the wife and I. Just wanted to feel comfortable getting the 9.9.
