Re: Alumacraft Pro 175?
We just visited the Minneapolis Boat Show today and looked at Lund and Alumacraft. Both are great boats. My gut is that the Alumacraft has a stronger hull because of its 2XB design, and they use real honest to goodness pressure treated wood for the decking. They also allow one to pick whatever power the dealer sells. That's a big plus.
We came close to getting a Trophy 1750 with a Suzuki 140hp, but ended up getting a Lund Fisherman 1750 with a Merc 115hp instead. Wife liked the color combination of the Lund better, and I really liked the I-beam construction of the hull and the Shorelandr trailer the Lund came with, but it all was more $$ than the Alumacraft with the same options. Then the Lund dealer came down. When we walked away to get some air and think about it, and privately crunch the numbers, we determined we were getting the Lund for a little less than the comparable Alumacraft, so we returned to Lund and countered even a little lower. A few minutes later we signed the purchase order. We probably could have gone back to the Alumacraft salesman and gotten even a better deal, but I knew we'd have to settle for a trailer we didn't want and I decided I was too old to correct any purchasing mistakes I might make today.
But, you know, that Alumacraft is a heck of a boat. It really is. (Last fall I toured their factory in St. Peter, MN. Great folks.) We'd be happy with either one. There are features of the Alumacraft we like, and there are features of the Lund we like.
Maybe that's why I'll continue to look into this Alumacraft forum from time to time. I really do respect Alumacraft boats and their owners. Wife and I both commented on how impressed we were with the Alumacraft salesman.
Gee, it's too bad they don't make LundAcraft or AlumaLund boats!
