Hi Everyone,

I own a 2000 Sea Ray 185 Bow Rider. It's an inboard/outboard engine. I want to take it to Lake Tahoe, but have heard that some people take their boats up there and they don't work due to the altitude. Can anyone tell me if I will have those issues too?

A quick www check says about 3%/1000' assuming the engine was rated at sea level when rated. Otherwise subtract your original altitude and performance there and proceed with your 3% loss. BruceB58 is a long time poster on here and has spent a lot of time on that lake. Ping him.

As mentioned you will loose 18% power vs sea level due to 6k ft elevation. Not sure if you are carbed or MPI? Normally for intermittant use merc just reccomends going down in pitch. If carbed and you will keep the boat at that altitude you rejet the carb leaner as well drop pitch to get enough power to get on plane/tow

Here is an example of high altitude guidance from merc - this is for a webber carb http://www.tiptopgarage.com/pdf_files/merc_weber_4barrel_97_09.pdf

pgs 6 -8 have high altitude reccomendations
