I put a new alternator in and took the boat out on the water. Did not seem like it was charging the battery, is it a bad battery or do I have something wired wrong on my alternator?

Need more info. First what do you have? Did you gages that told you it wasn't charging? Boat would not start after shut off? Did you get the same ALT? Wire up the same? Why did you change the ALT? Are you sure it was the problem? Can always have battery checked at local parts store.

Re: alternator probs.

get a voltmeter, read across battery posts. should be 12.5V, motor not running. start motor, if charging, should see ~14.5V. watch meter while starting boat several times. if V drops to say 8-10, sign that battery is going bad. replace battery.
