alternator in 1990 i/o 4.3

i wanted to know if there was any way to put a car or light truck alt in my boat i went to parts store and tried to match up but could not all had plugs in them and mine are all post i tried to post pic but not sure if went up part number of alt is 807652 i can make a new bracket if have to and make plug just need to know what goes to what thanks for all the help guys been using you for over 10 years

NO !!!!

Do not use automotive. They are not ignition protected which means they can spark and ignite and gas fumes that may find their way into the bilge.

+1 what don says, absolutely no - as stated they are not ignition protected and can cause fire/explosion

ten years on this board and you never came across a thread regarding this??

seems like there is a thread mentioning this issue on every page!!

new to the i/o used to the out boards have not had many problems with the eletrical parts is there any place i can get a marine one that is not 200 bucks

take your old one to a local reputable marine repair shop and have it rebuilt

this way you know it will fit on your engine properly and wire correctly
