Alternate outdrive serial number location??

I have a 1983 boat with a 120 Mercruiser in it. The upper serial number on the outdrive is 6365658 but the other serial number (on the side of the drive) is cracked and I can only see the first caractor (6) and barely any of the second caractor. The serial number matches the pre-alpha but it looks like an alpha on the sites that compare the 2. Is there another location of a serial on the outdrive? I am replacing the impeller and need to know which one to get. If there is no other location can someone tell me what to look for to get the right part?

TIA

Ayuh,... Lower units are not serial #ed...
Visually ID it,+ go from there...
The lower unit probably isn't original, so the serial # isn't of any help...

The impeller kits are the same from late 60's up to 90. You need Sierra #18-3217 unless your base is melted then you need 18-3317. Hope this helps. 'nutcase

Great thanks guys. Are there any other seals or anything I will need to put it back together? The outdrive is off the boat.

A new outdrive gasket kit to re-mount the outdrive. Check the engine allignment with an allignment tool before placing the outdrive back on (in fw gear)
