altanator problem

hey guys i have a 85 ski supreme with a 454 indmar in it im having a problem with the altanator it started and ran fine but i changed the origanal alt. and now when i try to turn it over in blows a fuse. and when i unhook the alt. it will crank. do i have to use a marine alt. ?

Absolutely you have to use a marine alternater. Unless you want to blow yourself up if you suddenly have a fuel leak.
Take it to an alternator/starter rebuild shop and get it checked out and fixed. Lot cheaper than new parts.

Lets see, YOU installed a different alternator (non-marine) now the circut breaker keeps popping. My first guess is, you didn't wire it correctly.
