alpha vibrates when in gear on muffs

I installed a new lower shift cable. Ran the engine on muffs. Shifted into forward then neutral then reverse. Engine rpm's were below 1000. When in either forward or reverse u can c the outdrive vibrating. Is this normal?? It's a 1986 alpha sterdrive

you really shouldn't be putting it in either gear when it's on the muffs...

Take it in the water and see what you feel.

Any out drive is going to vibrate at least a small amount in or out of the water.

I'm going to have to disagree with you on this...my outdrive shows no vibration when in the driveway.

I would associate any "visible" vibration to a less than smooth idle. Any time that the engine has a slight 'miss' or stumble, the outdrive will amplify this. A little 'tweaking' should put things right....

Putting it in gear on muffs will not hurt anything. When was the last tune up could just be a rough idle.

engine was tuned last fall. The engine idles smoothly.

I'm going to try running it with it the prop on and c if it still vibrates yet

Also if it was an alignment issue the drive would also vibrate when in neutral?

It was the prop. I ran it without the prop and no vibration. Installed a spare prop no vibration. Installed the original prop and it vibrates
