I'm trying to figure out which way the swivel shaft seal gets installed on my Alpha Gen I, and I've seen descriptions stating "lip up", and the diagrams seem to show them with the lip facing up;
HOWEVER, that is the opposite way you would think to install a seal, being that it's trying to stop the water from entering the boat from below the seal.
Is it because it's only sealing very very low pressure, and could get kinked/ruined when the swivel shaft is inserted upward through the seals???
Also, since I have no grease fitting, it appears that I'm supposed to use one seal on top of the bushing, and one seal below; do they both get installed "lip up"?
Has anyone ever done this swivel shaft seal replacement?
I need to get this straight, so I don't have to do this a 3rd time
