Alpha outdrive gear ?

I bought a boat with no lower part of the outdrive but i found a whole outdrive with different gear ratio if i leave my upper that on my boat and just put the bottom part of the foot will my gear ratio stay the same

There is a very good chance, depending on the gear ratio of each drive. My '96 Alpha Gen II has two different gear hsg. (lower hsg.) gear sets. One just for the very deep 2.40:1 ratio, and the other for all of the rest.

However the vertical drive shaft also comes in two p/ns. One for the 1.62:1 and 1.47:, the other for the rest. I don't know the difference except the first one is for the higher HP engines. Someone more knowledgeable can elaborate on issues with this.

OK, are your boat's drive AND the loose drive both 1.81:1? It may make a difference.
