Alpha One Trim Limit Troubles

Hello all. I recently completed a repower on my 89 Scarab Excel and during this process I took the time to reseal my outdrive and install new bellows/gimbal/lower shift cable and replace the trim sender and trim limit switch. After installation the trim limit does not work and i can raise my drive completely by just using the trim out button (my boat has a separate switch to raise to trailer position). I have tried adjusting with no luck and even reversed the connections and nothing is making the limit switch stop the drive. My trim pump is the 2 solenoid pump with the center bolt res. I was thinking that maybe one of solenoids is stuck open?? Before I did the repower the senders on the outdrive were shot and the wires were broke so the trim out button did not function at all the only way i could raise the drive was with the trailer button. Now the trim out button functions but doesn't stop raising the drive.

Re: Alpha One Trim Limit Troubles

are you rotating the limit switch enough to get it to break the up circuit?? I believe that i am. I set the initial adjustment per the instructions and have turned to full limit possible between the 2 screws

has the wiring at the pump been changed at all?? Not to my knowledge. I purchased the boat with a blown motor and have been restoring. All wiring on the pump seems to be factory there are no strange wires or hacked up connections

is the hinge pin secured properly in the bellhousing?? - blue loctite Yes I replaced the hinge pins with new and they are propperly torqued to 110 ft-lb

Not sure if it is possible to have the wires switched between the limit switch and the gauge sender? I think the connecters are opposite for each, But maybe something to check

Yeah the connections are different and the trim gauge is functioning properly. Thanks for the idea though

Re: Alpha One Trim Limit Troubles

I set the initial adjustment per the instructions and have turned to full limit possible between the 2 screws

take the screws out, set the sender to line up the index marks on the back side

have a helper run the trim up while you rotate the switch at the gimble ring, with the trim moving up, rotate the switch until the pump stops

with a tape measure, check the distance between centers of the trim ram - alpha one should be 21 3/4" max

continue rotating the switch with the helper holding the up botton until the measurement is correct, install the screws and re-check the limit distance

Thanks dubs. I'll be sure to try this out as soon as I get home from work today and I will report back with the results.
