Alpha One Outdrive Lower Unit Not Going On

This forum has been really helpful! I changed my 1st impeller ever today thanks to iBoats. Alot easier than I thought it would be. However, when I tried to put the lower unit back on, it would stop at about 3/4 of an inch away. Yes, the drive is in forward gear but I do believe it is hitting the shift bolt. I tried and tried, adjusting it to get it to fit but no LUCK. I need some instructions on the "trick" to get these things back on.

That being said, I dont want to rule out that the gear shaft is not catching either.. A couple of times I got it on but not the shift bolt.

Are you bolting the halves back together or the whole drive back on the boat?

the lower half.. i kept the upper unit on

It's more difficult that way.

What part is it you are referring to as "the shift bolt?"
