I recently purchased a 1995 Crownline with a 3.0 lx and AlphaOne Gen II drive with 299 hours. I am totally new to boating and marine engines and drives. The boat runs great and appears to be in great shape.
I am just doing pm getting ready for the summer season. I have changed engine oil and filter. Cap, rotor, plugs and wires as well as fuel filters. I have been reading on this board for a few weeks and looked over manuals DonS has posted, and decided I should change my water pump, and outdrive oil at the same time. Dont know when the waterpump was changed last. Do I need anything else beside this kit 47-43026Q 5 http://www.iboats.com/mall/index.cg...=191958504&**********=243661099&view_id=20308
Is there anything else I need to change while I am at it? Thank you for your time. I just want to be ready for summer. No suprises wanted. Brian

Re: Alpha One Gen II waterpump

I would get a compleat kit and change the seal below the pump

Do you know the service history ? Its time to change the drive bellows and all the other rubber parts if there orginal

If there allowed to fail they will cause BIG dammage

I would also pull the drive so you can check everything U-joints gimble bearing ect

This small black quad-ring seals the oil passage between the upper and lower is CRITICAL to replace correctly

Re: Alpha One Gen II waterpump

Do you know the part number for the complete kit? Will I need any special tools to seat the new seal. If I remove the upper drive to check ujoints is there a gasket needed there also? Will I neeed something to realign the gimbil before reassembly? Sorry about all the questions. I am just nervous about the unknown. Once i get into the drive i will feel more comfortable, I am more of a hands on guy. Thanks Brian

They're working for me, they are .pdf files and may take a while to load. Be patient, especially if you have dialup service.

Re: Alpha One Gen II waterpump

Thanks the links worked for me also.Have them saved to the harddrive now. I will order the parts when my bonus get here. The bellows appear to be in good shape , but will replace in the near future anyway. Dont know if I want to attempt that job myself or not. Brian

I have the waterpump apart Under the base the is some blistering under the paint. I assume this should be sanded off, and repainted? also found this when I seperated the upper and lower.

There should be some more laying around which you will want to find and also replace it

Tommay Im gonna have to have you send me a bill for all the help. Should i sand off the blistered paint around the pump base. It says to turn the shaft counterclockwise during reinstalling the pump, I am assuming this is standing in front of the unit. Where can I pick up a new exhaust flapper.

Re: Alpha One Gen II waterpump

Theres a merc dealer almost everywere :)
or merc parts express

you will need the numbers from the motor and drive its how how they track small changes so you get the correct parts

Sterndrive unit and transom assembly should be painted with a good quality marine paint or an anti-fouling paint that DOES NOT contain copper, tin, or any other material that could conduct electrical current. Do not paint drain holes, anodes, MerCathode system, and items specified by the boat manufacturer.

Re: Alpha One Gen II waterpump

My wife was in the city and picked up the parts today. Had to take the elbow off the manifold to get to the shutter. Checked out the manifold and elbow. Both in great shape. I should have everything back together in a few days. Thanks for your patience and help. After tearing into this job, I have a much better understanding of how everything works and fits together. This probably wont be the end of my questions. Thankyou again. Brian
I am assuming these are the perma lube u joints. There is a plug in the middle where the zerk usually goes. They feel fine as does the gimbil. Also one more question what would the proper adhesive be to glue the o ring back into the bell housing. Brian
