Alpha one Gen 2 Impeller kit with metal gasket 47-8m0100526

I purchased an impeller kit and instead of receiving item 47-43026Q06 I received 47-8m0100526. The kit does say it's for an alpha one generation II(s/n OD58748 and above). Also the instructions say it's an update. instead of using the flexible material for the "small hole" gasket it uses a metal gasket. The instructions were limited stated to use the manual as the guide but neither my manual or the kit instructions say to use a gasket sealer such as perfect seal. Note-The "large hole" gasket is made of the traditional flexible material and has a bead of sealant pre-installed. I've read of people having issues with air being sucked into the pump and causing overheating. My first instinct is to pull the lower unit again and put a gasket sealant on the metal gasket but does anyone know for sure that I don't need it(ie small hole gasket perhaps doesn't need it but large hole does)?

Hi there, welcome to iboats!

Unless you've been experiencing unusual overheat issues, temperature fluctuation, low water volume flow out the exhaust ports, find any damage under the impeller plate, then perfect seal isn't absolutely needed and not always added by everyone, but some do as standard practice. Adding some grease to both sides of the metal plate tends to work good if you don't use perfect seal and no other issues like mentioned.

I use Perma-Tex Aviation Sealant , works for everything.
Remove the old pump, plate, gaskets
Clean and paint the outdrive surfaces where the gasket goes
Install guide bolts
Apply sealant to drive housing
Install lower gasket,CORRECTLY
Install SS wear plate, using grease install keyway, , install gasket with sealant
Wet impeller and housing, install impeller with a counterclockwise motion
slide down driveshaft, onto guide bolts locating keyway to impeller, for the slinger seal,I use the Alpha type. Works a lot better
and easier to install
Remove 1 guide bolt, install bolt, second bolt, etc, etc
Silicone in place the ezaust baffel(plastic divider)
Install upper , pressure test, fill with oil.
