Alpha I - Shifting trouble

Something is a miss in the lower unit I think. The boat only wants to go into reverse. If I trim the lowerunit all the way up and shift into forward the gear will engage and I can go forward just fine. If I slow down to neutral it will eventually shift into reverse. Kind of strange way to get it to go forward. Something seems out of align. But it will go into forward gear when I trim up (gravity making it engage?). Any help/suggestions appreciated.

Re: Alpha I - Shifting trouble

Hi Stephen,
On top of the engine where the shifting is accomplished there will be two cables one comes from the control box and the other goes down to the outdrive; in front of where these two cables are attached there is a slot that the cable that goes to the outdrive is attached to loosen the locknut and adjust it in the slot until you have a good fwd.,neut. and rev.
You should have a manual to do this job,but you can probly get it done without one.

Most likely its time for a new lower shift cable. Look at attachment for adjusting like was said above before replacment. Adjustment
Here is another site also. Adjustment
