Was that close to mounting a Gen 2 on my Gen 1 transom. :( No go.

The 6 mount bolts fit nicely, would have work except for:

1. Drive is about 4mm wider at the area that slides between the gimbal ring. Could have shaved 2mmm off each side of the drive.
2. The shiftshaft is about 1 inch short of the bell housing shoe.

Didn't proceed further. Modifications would have meant having to buy the drive. Life as such, would then discover the ultimate no-go and end up as the only boat that carries a spare drive :D

Any thoughts/experiences for common misery sharing :D

They were never meant to be interchangable. The shifter is also different.
My suggestion......get the proper drive.

I've also been told that when you put your drive all the way up you will crack the gimbal housing. The rams on your alpha 1 and pre alpha's are longer, along with the ram pin on the gen two being closer to the stern.

There's an awful lot of interchangeability in the early to mid Model 1s,+ Alpha 1s......
But that all ends with the 1993 Alpha 1, Gen II.......
You'd have as much luck trying to mount a Bravo drive on that transom assembley.........
