Never leaked and no sign of water but been sitting in shop(on it's side)for 2 years.didn't get to a full pressure test because before i got a contraption made up fully,I put pressure by mouth in the lower and noticed that as long as it's upright it holds pressure but if I push the shaft side to side, nada.Leaks right out.Seal time?I know it dosen't really move side to side when halves are connected but...still shouldn't leak like this ,right?

Sorry,Sei drive is in route to shop for repair. This is original 96 A1 Gen 2.Lower half. Was seperated and on it's side in my shop.Maybe layin like that stretched the seal?As I said,if it's upright,ok but if I wiggle the drive shaft(between upper and lower)can blow right through.

I was just going to throw this drive back together and put it on the boat til the SEI gets back(forward gear gone)but looks like it needs to be re-sealed.

Ayuh,...

That shaft Don't wiggle when the drive is put together....

You really Can't do a Pressure Test with the Drive broke apart......

Thanks Bond-o,I'll throw arandom o-ring in there just to test and if all is well,I'll go pick up the proper seal, new exhaust flappers and crap, another question.SEI has you remove the valve (oil) from the bell housing.Do I have to replace that or can I simply remove the other half(ball)from the upper on my Alpha?Should be ok to just remove,no?

Yeah, kind of a PITA,you have to drain it first.SEI dosen't have that ball half in theirs and they have you pull the valve out of the bellhousing. They say it's in case of a leak the fluid is available to the drive faster but, that's a buncha BS cause even with the bottle disconnected, that fluid dosen't "run" outta the drive when you drain it.It just dribbles.?

Ayuh,....

If you loose a Seal,+ are loosing oil Faster than a Dribble,.... It Don't Matter....

I agree,... That seems to be a Pain.....

I'd Think that there'd be No Flow at all if you only use 1/2 of the valve.....??

You don't use 1/2 valve.Their drive comes with nothing in that hole and they tell you to pull the other half out of the bellhousing.Kinda retarded I think cause like you said,if it's faster than a dribble....and like I said, removing that valve completely, still dosen't let the fluid "run"out the drain. It still just kinda dribbles out when I drain it.
Thanks Bond-o

and they tell you to pull the other half out of the bellhousing.

Did you Do that,..??..??

If you Did,...
And you reinstall the Merc,...
Only the drive has it's 1/2 of the Valve.....
Oil won't Pass between them....

Yes,I did but, will remove the other half from the merc drive before I install it(so long as it passes a pressure test).
