If you have changed out your inboard waterpump... did you or have you heard of a "scarring on the camshaft" that requires an engine rebuild?

Supposedly 9 out of 10 engines require engine rebuild instead of just pump replacement.

Anyone ever hear of this defect with the Mercruiser 165 HP 4 cylinder engine?

The 470 series is pretty much one big TEST gone really bad and passed off on the boating public

The cam drives the pump and if the seals leak you get anti-freeze in the oil, so if you dont see it ASAP you have big problems

definetly not the great engine it seemed to be back in '83.Actually was it 1983 or 1883 ?

Most of the recirculating pump problems we see are external antifreze leaks. We just go to the bearing shop and get a couple "Redi-Sleeves" and cover the seal areas on the cam shaft.

DHP, it was was 1983 when it seemed like a good idea. They had better sense than that in 1883 :p
