Alpha 1 waterpump question

Can I replace the waterpump by just dropping the lower and not the whole drive. Everything I read says to remove the whole drive.<br /><br />I have done a number of outboard impellers but this is the first I/O.

You should take the drive right off and put it on a bench so you can work on it

Yes you can do it. However other things should be done. Like greasing the u-joints and outdrive alignment check. Just depends on if the joints have a grease fittings for the joints. It also gives you a chance to look at the bellows from the inside and check for water intrusion of the bellows.

You can do it on the boat, but it's alot easier with it off.
