O.k. I bought my first I/O 1988 3.0 with alpha 1 outdrive and change the outdrive gear oil and noticed it leaking from a small hole I think it's the pee hole Which is the only hole I saw stern side leading edge on bottom I,m I right? it stoped shortly after with not a hole lot coming out so I'm thinking it's a seal up higher rather than lower any thoughts to what this might be.also a link on how to fix would be great.

Re: alpha 1 leaking

Ayuh,... That's just a drainage hole for the little cavity behind, 'n above it....
It could be Any of the seals, besides the propshaft seals, as pretty much All of 'em are Above that area....

Have you done anything else to the drive,..??
Say a new Impeller,..??
If so, did you put the little quad-ring in-place,..??
Did it Stay in-place,..??

If Not,...
Get a waterpump kit, 'n tear it down...
You can look for oil trails while it's apart, 'n you might find Where it's leaking from...

Before you take it apart, remove the drive from the boat, drain the gear lube and pressure check the drive. A spray bottle with soapy water will blow bubbles at the leak.
