I think im getting the same thing. Looks like the original one piece units were superseded by what you bought. I came up with the part numbers below but i suspect it is what you have.

My flappers did not fit correctly either, so I trimmed some of the rubber so that they fully closed (or at least partially closed) while in the exhaust pipe. Without trimming, they pretty well were stuck open. Poor design in my opinion. Someone said that the castings for the Y pipe were variable, so that fit with the flappers worked with some, not so well with others.

Thanks FunTimes.. this is the one im am looking for.

So from the looks of it, i have the correct part so let me go try and make it work. I have to be doing something wrong I will let guys know the outcome

Thanks!!

"Please Note, this item has been discontinued by MerCruiser and replaced with our # 66A3 & # 66A2 which are shown below.

This WAS MerCruiser p/n 14348A1 & 14348A2 water shutter. It was used on many V-6 & V-8 applications.

This shutter had a stainless steel plate molded into the rubber. It was 4 1/2 inches long by 2 1/2 inches wide. It is held in place with a 1/8 inch round metal rod which is 3 1/2 inches long and 2 grommets which were included.

The number 14348 is stamped into the stainless steel plate."
