Hi, probably an easy one. I bought this boat and rebuilt it two years ago and have used it for one year even throughout our mild winter. 1986 Mercruiser 140 with Alpha one Generation one outdrive. Everything has been flawless. I am tuning up a few things for this spring and I removed the drive to lube the splines, inspect, etc.. (first time in one year) and there was more than a bit of gear oil in the bellows. I have no hour meter but probably had it running 20-25 hours this last year. Does it have to do with the round seal on the drive (pic below) was it not on right or am I missing something?
Thanks as always for any assistance.
James

I think it is leaking from the seal at the yoke shaft.Had this problem.Pressure test it to be sure then get the bearing retainer wrench and reseal it your self.I wish I would have done mine myself, the shop was ignorant ***holes.

Nothing to do with the rubber ring inside the bell-housing. Have a read of THIS, it should help you to know where the leak is and what's needed to fix it.

"Check the seal surface on the yoke for a groove"

Thanks Chris, I would like to check for this possible grove and/or rust. Where exactly would I be looking?

You need to pull the bearing and drive gear assembly out, then pull it apart. You're going to need the right tools.

1. Special spanner
2. Inch pound torque indicator (NOT a wrench, an indicator)
