Took my boat to the lake last week for vacation and unfortunately found out at the dock that it was taking on water. Pulled the boat out of the water and after some investigating found that 1 bolt had come out of the exhaust y pipe completely and the other 3 are loose. I've ordered a new o-ring to replace the old one but it look like it's not going to be an easy job for removal? Any tips or advice on doing this job?

Thanks ahead!

You need to pull the engine

Is that true? I can get my socket on all of the both with a swivel.

I'll just say that you might just get it done, but I'm an old guy and wouldn't try it. One of things that gets me concerned is what caused the bolts to come loose to begin with. Those bolts don't loosen up from time. Something changed which caused them to do it. You might be able to do it, but I would make sure you can see all surfaces to figure out what happened.

I just figured they had come loose over time, the boat is a 1991 Baja that I have used hard over the past 5-6 years. Tons of hours on the water pulling wakeboarders and skiers.

I have a 95 Rinker with over 550 hours on it (bought new) and it to pulled a bunch of stuff. As with everything on the forum this is my opinion and others may differ. It could be that the prior owner monkeyed around with it and this is the reason it is coming loose. I'll I'm saying, is what your doing may be a quicker way but may not be what is needed. I hope it works

While you may be able to access the bolt heads - how are you going to remove it far enough to clean and replace the o ring. Plus what the others have said, it needs to be evaluated as to why it came loose.

The Y pipe may only have 3 bolts, mine did since it was one of the newer replacement models. Yeah without pulling the motor I can't see a way to change out the o ring properly and you may be able to get a u joint in there with a small ratchet but how are you going to apply the proper torque to the bolts so it stays put?
