Nope, it`s just a plain old flat SS washer.
Unless of course someone been manhandling the lower unit trying to install it.

Okay flattened the washer out. Put the drive in forward, dropped the unit, put the washer on. put the unit back on. Now will not shift into reverse at all. Any help ?

Is the shift lever on the lower unit rotating with the gear selection? I've seen odd cases where the wrong washer was used and the hockey stick thing on top of the lower shift shaft didn't sit into the upper shift mechanism, so it just didn't move as it should have.

Thanks for your reply. It is a gen 1, it has a spline shaft rather than a "hockey stick"

Re: Alpha 1 drive shift shaft washer

was everything still in fwd. when ya reassembled? did the lower stay in fwd. during reassembly? ie. did ya bungee cord the prop and load it ccw to keep the lower in fwd. it'll slip out easy if ya touch the prop.

did the lower shift fnr on the bench?
is the shift shaft coupler between the upper and lower facing fwd when in fwd?
does the shift shaft coupler swing from facing fwd to port when shifting into rev? maybe 40* swing for rev. neutral is half way in between..

can ya move the shift cable with your fingers inside the boat with the shift cable detached from the shift plate? it should move smooth and easy and be able to obtain fnr.

.now i found holes in the exhaust bellows
generally speaking. that's irrelevant, as the exhaust bellows is underwater and full of water up to the water line anyways..
