Alpha 1 drive gear sticking

I am trying to remove the drive gear from my upper. I need to check whether my drive has the small spacer, which I should have checked before. I put in a new inner yoke last season and used the 6 to 10 inch/lb rolling torque when setting it's preload. Last summer my drive had a bit of gear whine so I am concerned that the preload or shimming is wrong. I went to reset it and the gear does not come out of the bearing cluster.
Is it ok to drive the bearing out with a drift? Or should I use some sort of press? The manual doesn't address any sticking. The way it's written it appears as if the gear should just slide out from the inside of the bearings. I don't know how it ought to be done and I don't want to ruin the bearing unless it's the only choice.
Good news is there's no metal in the gear oil and no marks on the gears, but if I could make it quiet I would.

did the gear simply pull off = has small inner spacer = torque to spec
did you have to use a puller= has no inner spacer = use rolling torque

Negative.... You need to release the preload of the bearing on the gear and start the process of setting the rolling torque from start... Which manual are you using, because the Merc manual is VERY clear about this....

Well I did catch that, it's why I wanted to know how to release it. Thanks for watching over me though. I do have manual #6, on a flash drive.

A bearing press plate between the gear and the inner race of the bearing...
