Can I use an Alpha 1 Gen 1 pump on an Alpha 1 Gen 2 set up?
Tried the search bar with no luck.

I know the harness plug is the exact same, so wiring wont be an issue.

Thanks,

I also see that the Gen1 pump uses standard motor oil, continue to use this or use the power steering fluid that the Gen 2 uses (assuming the two can work together.

Any help or ideas are greatly appreciated.

Bump to the top.

Someone please enlighten me here... The weekend is coming up, I've only had my boat out 1 time since owning it, on that trip I found out I had a cracked block, and like everyone else I'm trying to get on the water for memorial day weekend.

I've got both gen 1 and gen 2 trim pumps and both gen trim cylinders too.

Right now I've got the gen 1 trim pump on since the gen 2's mounting bracket rusted into multiple pieces, and the gen 2 cylinders on.

I haven't turned the trim pump on to see if it works - and ideally I won't until one of you fellas that knows what the skinny is, tells me whats what.

Thanks,
Sean

Do the pumps look the same? Not talking about the resevoirs.

Same fittings etc?

My understanding is that any oily fluid works in the pumps.

ATF should work. What does the manual say?

Marc thanks for your help on this.

The photo below is the Gen1 pump which has the same model number (I think its a model number) J1171. This is the pump with a good bracket that I'm hoping will work with my setup.

Here is a pic of the Gen 2 that came out.

It was noisy before, but worked fine. The bracket just rusted into multiple pieces, so I'm hoping it'll work.

Now I can see both have the same pump J1171, but I read somewhere that Mercruiser changed gears somewhere along the line and went from Low pressure high volume to high pressure low volume - so thats where the confusion and this thread stem from.

thanks again,
Sean

Sorry, but I can't help anymore other than to say J1171 is not a part number.

It's an SAE electrical code. Like UL or CSA.
