I figured ide share one of my SHT i performed while on the water. My friend had just bought a new to him boat and we check everything out and decided were got to go. So we get to the lake and i install the plug. we launch the boat, everything is going fine until i look back and see water splashing up from the floor drain. I pop the back hatch and its full of water.so I quickly turn on the bilge pumps, hop in the water. reach down to check the plug and its still in and tight. My friend comes walking down after parking the trailer and i signal to him the boats is sinking, He takes off after the truck. i pull the boat up right next to the ramp where its the most shallow. we finally get it on the trailer without sinking. as we pull the boat out, the super soaker 8000(aka bilge drain) starts shooting water out. Apparently i plugged the live-well drain and not the bilge . we didnt know. we tried calling the owner before hand to ask what all the different holes did since its a fishing boat but he hadn't returned the call yet.

after plugging the correct hole the boat doesnt even take on enough water for the pumps to pickup

I did that to my boat a couple of weeks ago. Had to go over the side commando to move the plug.
It was a week day, nobody around.

BTW, the lowest hole is always the bilge drain.

Come on J, the overflows are above the waterlines (usually in the sides) I guess I should have said....plug all of the lower ones in the transom.

You didn't ask me how I know the bilge pump had better d****d work.

I've plugged the wrong one twice now. It's easy to do in a hurry and/or in the dark. The live well overflow drain is directly over the bilge drain, and the same size, although it's a plastic thru-hull fitting and the bilge drain is a brass swaged tube.

the drain is almost the exact same height, they're only inches apart. the livewell drain is plastic and the bilge does have a brass tube. i was used to my boat(non fishing boat) that has a plastic drain so i figured that was the one! weird thing is, I cant get the plug to even fit in the livewell drain now, its really loose. I dont know how it fit that day:confused:.

Your not a boater until you have one "I almost sank my boat" story.
