All new gauges =) this should be a good one...

So I bought a kit from teleflex which includes the following-

Speed 0-60 3"
Tach 0-7k 3"
Oil Pressure 0-80 2"
Tim 2"
Motor water temp 120 - 240 2"
Clock 5am-wife calls 2"
Battery 0-18 2"
Gas 2"

Have a 94 Ranger Apache 350V with Evinrude 150 EXP. I've opened a hell of a can of worms here. Have a few questions maybe a few of you folks have dealt with before and have helpful advise/guidence...

1) Where can I find replacement back lay to mount the gauges too? (ie OEM/material store/internet) Mine is faded and wrong holes for new app.

2) Mentions you can "daisy chain" the light and ignition hookups.. I have 8 total gauges "hopefully" to install. Can that one power supply truely handle that load?

3) The trim gauges calls for a "trim sender" would my motor come equipped with that? The image on directions looks nothing like what I have..

4) Tach gauge
A: Says compatible with all V models.. Mine is EXP but a V6. That may be an embarrassing question there.. not confident on it though.

B: Sender needs to be connected to main engine harness/engine electrical strip/rectifer/stator, um where do I find that exactly?

5) Where is the boats main ground supply?

6) Will I be able to utilize the oil pressure gauge on this outboard?

7) Where can I find the ignition jack and best way to tap into it?

8) Is there really a difference between wire and marine grade wire?

9) Would it be bad of me to use the original wiring for replacement gauges that already exist to save the headache?

10) Whats the best way to extinguish 25 gallons of fuel that may ignite due to bad wiring? (j/k)

Bare with the ignorance on trying to tackle this project (I'm a guy, "I got this np" type thing) I know car things but pretty new to boating world.

IF ANYONE CAN HIT ANY OF THESE QUESTIONS IT'D BE MOST HELPFULL AND APPRECIATED !!

WOW, that is a can of worms!
I have rewired my boat and it can look like a big plate of spaghetti.
Start with 1 thing, figure that out and then move on.
Tha dash face, you will probly have to make do, I have used 3/16 aluminum and 3/4 plywood, prefer aluminum.
A daisy chain is when you run 1 ground wire to a gage and then jump it to the next and so on,you will need to find piggyback connectors,it is a male and female connector that is one peice, done that ,not hard, time consumming.
Don't know3-4
The main ground supply would be the negative post of the battery, a boat is not like a car to where anything metal is grounded, everything is grounded to the battery.
If you motor is a 2 stroke you can't use the oil pressure gage as 2-strokes have no oil pressure.
As far as I know there is no difference between wires,it is the connections at the ends and any splices that need more attention an a boat so they don't corrode.
If the stock wiring works use it, why give yourself any more headache.

Chums, Are you sure that gauge set is for a 2cycle outboard? Normally you wouldn't use a oil pressure gauge. We also use the water pressure gauge instead of the water temp gauge.

OK you need to connect all the lights on the gauges and the +12DC connection to the purple wire in the wiring harness. The volt gauge can can be connected to this as well. All gauges also need to be connected to the black ground wire. The tach sender gets the grey wire. Water temp is a tan or tan/blue wire. Look for the sender on the cylinder head. Clock gets +12V at all times (red/purple wire).

That motor may have a trim sender already installed . Tilt up the motor and look for a black lever inside the transom clamp. Speedo gets water pressure tube from Pitot. Gas gauge gets sender wire from tank level sender.

The only gauges that make sense for your boat are the gas gauge, speedo, trim, and voltmeter. Perhaps the tach can be used. Two stroke outboards do not have any oil pressure. Two stroke outboards can use a temp gauge but not one for an automotive based I/O or inboard engine. They read 120 to 240 and take a different sender than one for a two stroke outboard. The needle would rarely get off the peg. Here is a generic gauge wiring diagram.

Wow, thanks to everyone!! The diagrams will definetly come in handy, thats great!! I did open a hell of a can of worms, I'm aware of that :D

When I bought the kit I assumed the oil pressure gauge was a no go, but it was basically free with the kit, atleast thats how I'm looking at it. For those who replied, willing to send it to you if interested, free of course! ( Possibly temp gauge as well ) Call it, first dibs gets it/them. Little reward for the time spent giving advise.

So the daisy chain will power all, thats what I needed to know, thanks.

I'm cool with installing just:
Speedo
Tach
Trim
Batt
Clock
Fuel

Would hate to use the original dash panel, it's in real bad shape. Probably have to replace with oem ranger part, if blank.

Anyway thanks to all once again, very helpfull !!
