Do i need one? i just want to pull the drive off to grease the splines and shaft and to inspect u-joint and bearings. drive is a SX-A on a 5.0 gl

You should have one to check the alignment while you have the drive off. The only time I ever had to really use mine was when I changed my gimbal bearing though. I do check every season though just in case.

Yes...you should check it every time you have the drive off.
