Alignment tool variation?

I've read many posts about people trying to align their engine but not being sure if the engine needs to go up or down. I've aligned my engine, but not really sure the tool slides in as easy as it's supposed to. Do they make a tool that is the correct diameter of an alignment tool for the couple of inches that goes into the splines, but then it's just like a 1/4" rod that comes out the rest of the way so you could eyeball against your gimbal bearing whether the engine needs to go up or down? Would a tool like this be of any real use?

It's really easy, due to the pivot point location of the coupler and the rear mounts. When you use grease on the alignment bar and say it binds half way into the coupler. Pull the bar straight out and look at where the heaviest marks in the grease are. The heavy marks indicate the tight side.
Now the fun. If the heavy marks are on top of the AB (alignment bar) you need to move the front of the motor DOWN to bring the bottom of the coupler up.
IF the marks are heaviest on the bottom the front of the motor goes UP.

Be sure to look at item 9 in the FAQ sticky at the top of this forum.
