Re: Alignment tool. Anyone know the dimensions so I can make my own?
Take a piecee of 1 inch round stock, cut to a length of 15 inches and turn down the first 4.5 inches to 0.985 O.D. and that is it. I use a torrington needle bearing with a i" I.D. and slide it down the shaft and into the gimble bearing. You can make a bushing and do the same thing, but make the O.D. of the bushing about .250 less than the I.D. of the gimble bearing. This will allow you to get a visual alighnment to get you in the ballpark, then meausure clearence at 0,180,90,& 270 degrees ( I use a drill bit) Remember to compensate for the small amount of play in the coupler by pushing the alighnment tool towards the point that you are checking clearance.
