I aligned my 1990 5.7 / Alpha 1 after a new gimbal bearing using the alignment tool. I aligned it by having someone constantly turn the alignment tool while it is inserted for the least amount of resistance through 360 degrees of engine rotation to ensure no binding.. (It took a while) Then I inserted the tool and read the grease spline imprint at 90 degree increments. Everything looks great. My question...How tight should inserting and removal be? It goes in sort of tight and comes out with a good stiff pull. Never slides in and out very easy. Am I good?

Put the alignment tool in all the way and then give it a couple of knocks with a hammer sideways... Sounds like the gimbal bearing needs 'aligning'... That should give you a much nicer slide in and out....

You should be able to slide it in and out fairly easily. Like thumb and index finger easy.

Than you all! Suspended the front of the engine from the rafters and got it in 10 minutes. It did literally slide in and out really easy. Had no point of reference since it was kind of tight with the original gimbal bearing. Thanks again!
