alarm's driving me nuts

I recently removed and repaired my powertilt motor on my "95" BF50. I need to bleed the piston as the motor now works, the springs on the brushes were siezed. The problem is now that my alarm is continuously beeping in forward or reverse. I at first thought that I had damaged my tilt switch but disconnecteing that lead did not change anything. My manual says that my motor (tiller equipped) does not have the combination beep and oil light out configuration to indicate oil feed problem but I noticed the oil light out indicating that problem. I noticed at the time that my powertilt was being serviced I had the motor tilted quite high and would spill oil. When I relaunched I added oil. My question is does the oil pressure light out beep alarm sound when the oil level is too high? Mark

where would oil spill?
you should be able to tilt to any degree without oil spillage.
my bf50 alarm will go if if am running the motor beyond certain tilt.
i think this is just so you are aware and do not
tilt the motor past the point where water intake is jeopordized.
the oil pressure light should glow green when the motor is running indicating good oil pressure.

Re: alarm's driving me nuts

Thanks Scotty, My powertilt alarm had been functioning in the past prior to my removing and repairing the brushes on the PT motor. After reinstalling I checked my oil level and topped up. Then upon restarting the alarm would continuously sound in forward and reverse. I didconnected the tilt swtch but still have the alarm. My real concern is that everything had been functioning fine prior to my fiddling with the PT. The oil pressure light is out though indicating a pressure loss. As I said before though, my 95 BF50 , according to my manual says that a tiller model does not have the audible and light out combo. I bought the motor used last year and had a very good summers use. I noticed a bit of oil leaking around the upper and lower cowling joint but checking my level regularly I suspected it was engine fog from winterizing. The oil leaking has persisted this year after the motor warms up. If it is a pressure loss and oil leak, where might i look? Mark

is it possible you are seeing hydraulic fluid leaking out of your trim unit?

Hey Scotty, I am very sure it is not the PT leaking. The motor had always functioned fine except for the slight leak of oil that i presumed was engine fog from winterizing. The engine ran fine this year with the exception of an electrical malfunction on the PT motor which I rectified. The problem occurred after reinstalling the PT and encountering the alarm for the first time upon startup.I am going to perform an oil change this week and perhaps put the motor up for the winter. I will let you know what happens. Thanks Mark
