Alarm sounds when I turn ignition key

I have a 1998 Signature 210 with a 5.7L engine. Every time I turn the key to start the boat, a shrill alarm sounds until the engine is running. First, is that alarm supposed to warning me of something wrong, and what might it be warning me about? I've had the boat for about five years now and have had no problems other than a short circuit somewhere that kept draining my battery (a battery switch has fixed that). So, I have no idea what "problem" the alarm might be warning me about. Second, is there any way to disconnect the alarm?

If you are not running the blower prior to starting the engine the alarm may be warning that you didn't and that there is a possibility of fumes in the engine compartment...

That alarm is engine related, no oil pressure, engine starts, oil pressure builds, alarm goes off. I am not sure if it sounds for high engine temp or not, may depend on the warning system you have. Do not disable it, it may save an engine one day.

Re: Alarm sounds when I turn ignition key

this happens on my boat as well. I have a 2004 5.0 L Merc in an 18' Four Winns. I bought the Merc shop manual and found a reference that this alarm is intended to sound during start. I kept waiting for my engine to sieze but could find no issues with pressure, temp, etc... So finding this reference in the manual put my mind at ease. I still find it a little annoying to have everybody at the boat ramp stare at me when I turn the key :). But I figure better to not disable it.
