Hi All
Again it is that time of year when my boat gets put in the water for some fun. I have a problem, not sure if its a bigin or not. I have an 88 Merc 70 with very low hours on it, but what is happening is the Alarm is sounding at the control box/throttle control, this can be muted by turning the key back slightly (but this is turning off the alarm all together). The throttle control is a standard Merc/Quick Silver with trim control and a run switch. I have tried 2 things so far. I have disconnected the oil level float while the alarm is sounding (no change in tone or pitch), I have also located the engine temp sensor and disconnected this (again no change in tone or pitch). all this was done dry docked and motor not running. Could the ignition solenoid (where the key goes in) cause this or could it be a pooched buzzer. Any help would be appreciated, and thankyou for alll input.
Puddlejumper2

Re: Alarm signal from control box

If you have disconnected the wires on the bottom of the oil tank and also the temp sensor wire..I would replace the control module. This is the box that the sensors are wired to so that if their is a problem the control module turns on the horn.

But also look at the senor wiring and make sure the wire insolation has not been compromised.
