alarm/Buzzer problems

I have been having some trouble with the alarm/buzzer circuit on my 2007 496ho. Normally I am suppose to get a short beep every time the key is turned to the run position, but I don't always. I have a purple and a tan/blue going to the buzzer, and the only way I can get the buzzer to work is to put my volt meter on ground and on the tan/blue as if I was going to check voltage going to it, turn the key on and that will bring the buzzer to life every time. I only see a couple volts while the buzzer sounds. Then it will usually work every time after that, unless the boat sits for a bit. Then I will have to repeat the process. Does it sound as if the buzzer is getting bad or something else?

Purple is hot when key is on
Tan/Blue goes to ground by the ECM to turn the buzzer on

Putting a meter across the two leads might mean that your buzzer has some corrosion in it, or maybe the connections feeding it. There is a bullet connector on both leads

ok thanks for that...when I put the volt meter on I am going between a separate ground under the dash to the tan/blue. I haven't gone to the purple. Sounds like need to trace some wires, and change out the buzzer to rule that out.

Just to note: the Tan/Blue wire only grounds for first key on and when there is a problem. So if you read from the Tan/Blue with the buzzer not buzzing, you should show voltage
