I have a 1984 Grady White Overnighter. When I started the boat yesterday, there was an alarm/horn going off behnid the gauges. I looked under the dash, but cannot see the horn?

What is the horn/alarm device behind the dashboard alert you of, overheating, Oil Injection alarm?

I ran the boat at headway speed for 30 minutes and it runs as normal, great. Not sure if the alarm device is broken, or something is wrong.

Any assistance is appreciated. Thanks.

My 1992 50HP has a buzzer that sounds when the ignition is 1st turned on. Heat, oil alarm. The buzzer is in the Throttle/shift control box tho, not under the dash. Sounds like you must have something similiar.

Jerry

Re: Alarm - 1988 Mercury 175 Outboard

My alarm does go off when I start the boat, I assume it is to tell you that it is still working, but now it will not go off after the boat starts.

Is this a tempature or low oil alarm?

It goes off (Alarms/beeps) at cold tempature and I filled the oil injection tank, but alarm will not turn off.

Thanks again.

One steady beep is overheat alarm, intermittent beeps are the oil horn. Don't run with alarm sounding. You could have a problem with the oil system. Good luck and let us know.
CU

My question is why would you run it for 30 mins. if the alarm was sounding? A tow would have been a miniscule hassle/expense compared with the risk of damage you took.
