Everybody is using these.. Hottest game in town during the spawn. Bass are protecting the eggs and 1 little threat can be chased off but three are a different story. They get attacked and eaten almost instantly. The pro circuits are fighting over the right to use it and I think they cut it down to three hooks for tourney's. They're using them up at Clear Lake, Ca in the tourney's last I heard. I'm gonna throw one up at Lake Sonoma, Ca. this weekend. Gonna try it on an ultralight rig.. Yeeeee Haw...
You know they are just umbrella rigs - been around the Chesapeake Bay forever.
Trolling ain't much fun for me either. You can hook all baits or none which would be a teaser. Predators can't resist a school of bait away from cover. They will probably forbid them in the future on the Bass circuits I would think.I've trolled umbrella rigs for Stripers off Oregon Inlet on a friends boat years ago. I thought his rigs only had 1 or 2 hooks and the rest of the baits were hookless, but I might be mistaken. I did'nt find it fun at all to crank in the heavy, dragging rigs w a smaller rockfish on the end, you could hardly tell it was there, like cranking dead weight back to the boat. I think they should call them chandelier rigs cause that's what the Alabama rigs I've seen look like! I'm amazed that tournaments would allow them, it seems like cheating IMO. What's next?, a Sabuki type Bass rig w 5 or more baits?
The usual complint from someone who don't catch big ones on the troll.Trolling ain't much fun for me either.
Dupont spinner.........Dynamite!What's after the Alabama rig................a castable castnet?
