Neat political stunt,

In six months count the number of fines issued. I will bet you there are not more than 25 if any. Try to prove gouging. Not easy.

Michigans socialist governer tried the same thing, gas is up 80 cents in about a day and a half.

When someone comes up with a coherent idea, I'll listen.

This gouging myth pops up every time a supply/demand issue hits people in their pocketbooks.

In a free market anyone who can figure out a way to sell a commodity for less than their competition and still make a profit will do so. That's Sam Walton economics.

Simple solutions? Increase supply or reduce demand. The price will come down.

i understand supply and demand and fully expected a price rise

BUT this was a little to fast i dont think the wind even died down before we got the first 50 cent rise and 48 hours into this thing its gone up 85 cents a gallon on long island

tommays

30 million barrels of gas refineing capability was wiped out. Check the price of diesel it has remained relatively consistant. Why, their refineries were not affected.

when the price goes up 30 cents a gallon in 8 hours and thier selling from the same underground tank of gas that was there yesterday do we have price gouging?

Of course when the supply goes back to normal the price reduction takes weeks. :)

I managed a gas station for 10 years, we bought all our fuel on consignment. That is to say, we paid for it after we sold it. That made us vunerable to 3 or 4 price fluctuations a day. If supply is affected (which it is), the refineries will hike up the price to the station immediately.

Maybe that is what is happenning - dunno.

Re: Alabama is fighting the gouging

It is the perception and anticipation of supply and demand that drives the price up, guys. It doesn't have to be now and it doesn't even have to be real.

Terrorists blow up an oil pipe in Iraq, price goes up.

Venezuela threatens coup, price goes up.

Hurricane shuts down 15% of US oil production, price goes up.

Hurricane damages several US refineries, price goes up.

China increases demand by 15% per year, price goes up.

India increases demand by. . .

Well, if you don't have the picture by now, you probably believe that it is all GWB's fault and he can fix it by issuing an illegal executive order.

The Alabama Attorney General is blowing a lot of hot air for political gain. The price gouging law requires a 25 percent rise above prices prior to a hurricane. However you have to consider the fact that supply availability has been harmed by the hurricane.

DJ what do you know about Alabama, and how do you consider price gouging as a social issue that has anything to do with this state?

Regards to all but one.
Gold Bear
