Air Silencer?

Howdy, we've got a re-powered cabin cruiser which was re-powered with Mercruiser's remanufactured 383 Mag MPI. Anyways a few weeks back I was lowering the boat into the water and I had a buddy crank her up. Since the boat had been sitting for about 3 weeks it took a few seconds longer to crank anway's my buddy thought it had started by the sound of the engine catching but quickly realized it haden't so he turned the key again and the engine backfired and then startedd right up and then it made this constant hissing noise.

I can only describe the noise as to that of an a power steering pump hiss when you make a hard turn. Anyways with some investigation I found it was coming from the intake, I took the flame arrestor off and I noticed what look like to small seperate intake holes and the one on the right is where i determined the hissing noise is coming from. My only guess is that there is supposed to be a foam peice in this whole to silence that air traveling through. If so where can I get this part? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Re: Air Silencer?

The hissing you hear is the idle air passing thru the idle air control valve and is normal. Nothing is missing, go boating and enjoy! 'nutcase

Sounds like you sucked your IAC muffler into the motor. Not a big problem. With your engine serial number any Mercruiser dealer can get you one.
Good Luck Muc
