Air silencer gaskets

I was reading my manual for my 1979 Evinrude 150 V6 last night and it indicated that when I remove the air silencer cover to get to the carbs I should remove the gasket and discard it. It also said I should discard the gasket between the air silencer and the carbs. I've had my air silencer off before and there are no gaskets. Should there be gaskets and what problems might it cause not having any gaskets.

There should be gaskets. Without them there will a very slight shift / throttle cable adjustment difference at the trunion and anchor point. It's not a problem either way but I'd use them. And I have reused them if they arent torn.

Good luck!

Thanks Dhadley for the quick response. I'll pick up some gaskets. This might also help with the shifting problem I've had lately, although I think I've got that fixed.

Wendell
