I'm looking for a long hose for my octopus. I've seen them on tech divers in the magazines, but my local shop says it'll cost over a buck a foot. Anyone know of any good (reasonable) sources?

I always use my local shop, and rarely go "mail order" but that seems rediculous.

Thanks
Bob

MC,

That doesn,t sound TOO bad. I don't know how long the hose needs to be.

I wouldn't fool around here, there aren't any breathing options left underwater if an inferir hose pops.

Just curious, why do you need a long hose? Isn't there a standard length one that will work?

You can contact Tim O'Leary at Nauitec@aol.com- but at $1 per foot, I don't think you will find a much better price (especially by the time you ship a mail order unit). $10 for a ten foot hose is not out of line. For uncertified hose, look up hydraulics or truck repair in your local phone book; they can match the hose size and fittings, but I personally would not use it with a regulator.

I am a public safety dive rescue instructor....just a word of caution: long octo hoses are ok if there is a need for them, like in cave diving. But if you're diving in any sort of low vis environment, you'd better think twice about longer any kind of longer hoses. No matter how well you tuck them in or fold them, they can still came loose and pose a huge entanglement risk. We use a BC mounted Air II regulator as a backup and give away our primary reg to the out of air diver, and then go on our Air II. Having a BC mounted AirII eliminates one more LP hose from the gear set. Recommend ScubaPro's AirII reg....

I'd have to concur with Divemaster3. Unless you're cave diving or into some similar specialty, there is no need for an extra-long octopus hose. The Scubapro AirII is nice, hope to get one myself for next season. Anyway, if you must have a long hose, more than a buck a foot doesn't sound that out of line to me. You know dive gear is expensive to start with, and any custom or specialty stuff is even higher. That's my 2 cents worth, if it's even worth that much. :)

I agree with the others. I have a 40" hose on my octo (I just measured it). Check with Divers Direct (diversdirect.com) for their price.
When purchasing life-support equipment, take no chances. Always buy from a known dealer.

Like the rest say, a buck a foot is pretty good, its not like you need 200 feet! If you like though, leisurepro.com is a nice site, and I believe I saw a swivel fitting on there recently for quite cheap, that could help you out...
Craig
