Air cooled flange sealant questions

I have been trying to seal up my kids 4 stroke air cool 1985 250cc suzuki 4 wheeler valve cover. It has developed an oil leak and I have tried using loctite 518 on it and it burns off and the leak gets worse. I believe this is because the locktite 518 is for liquid cooled motors and a lower temps than a air cooled motor.

Anyone know what the flange sealant for air cooled motors is? I would like to stick with locktite branded product. I have always had great results with them when used in the proper application.

I have had success using the red high temp RTV gasket maker made by a company called Pro Seal.I'm sure Permatex or Locktite make a comparable product. It is rated for 650 degrees F or 340 degrees C.Hope this helps.

So you are telling me RTV sealant will hold up to an air cooled motor head temps? I thought that those head get above 650'F. Will RTV hold up to them?
I know locktite 518 does not. It burnt off faster than my last marsh mellow did roasting on a campfire!

Anyone know what kind of temps those heads get up to? The fins on the heads I mean....

From the information I have read, air cooled motors run in the 200 to 300 degree range. The HIGH TEMP RTV is the one to use.I apologize if the running temps are different from what I read.Google air cooled engine temperature for the info I seen.

Does than engine not use a gasket or rubber reusable gasket? Why not buy a new seal/gasket off the web? It couldnt be that expensive. My 87 Yamaha wheeler has an oval shaped rubber gasket that fits in a channel on the valve cover. I cant speak for a Suzuki.
