Finally got around to waking up the Gulfstream 5.0, from it's winter slumber. It does the soul good to hear the rumble of the ol' Ford V8. It couldn't have happened a better day. Unusually warm (85 deg) pre-summer day.

I cranked it over til the oil pressure came up, then goosed the throttle several times and she lit right off. All the vital signs registered properly on the guages and there were no leaks anywhere.

I can't wait to get 'er in the water.

There's nothing more cathartic than hearing that motor and seeing that wake.:) Just remember, if Algore, et al, have their way, there won't be any more of that.:(

You say that, but you started with:

Unusually warm (85 deg) pre-summer day
Please don't give them any ammunition . . . I am reading a book written by a GW fanatic. There are some people that claim we have been manipulating the weather since we discovered fire  The title is The Weather Changers.

Back to your regularly scheduled V8 worship, that's something worth being passionate about :D

Well QC, I didn't say 'a record warm pre-summer day', but you still make an excellent point.;)

Today, another 'unusually warm pre-summer day', I think I'll double my pleasure and go 'cross town and start up my Beachcraft VEE EIGHT. Ah, the mere thought of it!:D

Alright, I'll let you slide, as I know where your heart lies . . . with V8s and proper exploitation of Earth's petroleum resources :D

BTW, the title of the book I am reading is actually Weather Makers which is even more indicative of the obvious contradiction from some Gaia worshipers. Gaia is all powerful, except for . . . uh, man, who can not only manipulate weather but indeed make it . . .

Oh man, I thought taking the moon rocks was what messed with the weather....that is what all the old folks told me growing up. :)

Yah Boom, nothing gets the blood flowing like the harmony of 8 cylinders singing a single tune. Add a little compression, sprinkle in some cam lope, uncover the exhaust, and ya got a recipe for the grins.:D:D:D

Re: Ah! The re-awakening

Although not nearly as heartwarming as the thumpin of a V8 with goodies on it, I finally fired up me most recent acquisition the other day: a virgin, (still has wire nuts on the crank case bolts), 1969 Merc 1000 short shaft. Had to rob a wiring harness, solenoid n' two gas lines from some of me other black anchors that are perminantly restin' in me shed fer parts. Once she torched off she just purred like a kitten. The second time I started after the initial fire, it exploded when I just touched the key: A VERY GOOD SIGN, I MUST SAY. Still have to replace the water pump as the stream is OK on the muffs but don't wanna chance it out on a puddle somewhere. Got the bad news on me power trim unit from the ol' 1250 short shaft this engine is gonna replace that gave up at the same time: $353.00 before the govenor's take. Had to have a new armature AND rebuild the hydrolic pump: OUCH! At 39 years of age both the motor and the power trim laid down at the exact same time, go figgure. The ol' 1000 only cost me $350.00! Hmmmmmmm. OH well. Boats: a hole in the water that cornsumes $ I say!! JR

Sorry Boom. I guess I should learn to be more brief with spaces to break things up fer the ol' eyeballs: like you post here, (one of my heros here on iboats).

I was just soooo happy a 38 year old $350.00 motor, (that is new to me), would run soooo good on the first fire this season, that I had to add my personal happiness to yer thread here.

I know there is actually no comparison to a built V8 thumpin' in yer ears, n' a smokey ol' black two stroke dingin' on six small cylinders, (all popin' at the appropriate time). I'm jus' fairly easy to entertain.

I bet $350.00 would not buy many of the individual parts on yer motor. N' just the power trim r n' r was $385.27 (with the governor's forced tip), as I picked her up today.

I'll try to learn from you for future posts. :D:D JR
