I was hoping someone could help me find some aftermarket performance vendors for OMC outboards. I remember reading about Second Effort, and the 15-A's, 40-SS's etc... and wondered how to get my hands on those types of parts? I have asked every knowedgeable marina about modifying outboards, and I have received the same reply for almost 20 years "Can't do it". Surely someone has some knowledge -- regardless of the reliability tradeoffs, etc. My current project is a 1988 (89?) 30HP Johnson on a very small and light 2-seater. It currently hits 40MPH with operator only, and a 17" pitch prop. My urge is to install a 60HP from the family where 40,50, and 60HP were the same CID for the year (can anyone help with that one?) The boat does not have a rating plate (Canadian, built before the requirement) but it is extremely stable, and could handle an additional 100lbs or more on the transom. However, I would prefer to modify this engine to some extent. This model year's CID offered a 35HP; so at a minimum I would like to know how to get it there. What I am really after is porting/polishing techniques and/or templates; custom exhaust ; modified ignition, etc. I am not looking for the standard reasons why NOT to do these things, but instead -- HOW?! I believe this block is around 750cc. Surely it could support 60-70hp with some modification? Has anyone installed a small turbo on an outboard? (Sorry, I am a turbo addict -- everything I own must be turbocharged). The boat planes easily with one person, but requires additional passengers to remain forward until planing. I am after more top end speed, with some sacrifice in reliability.<br />Anyone??
