I bought a new Starcraft Islander 221 last September and drove cross country to pick the boat up. Unfortunately it was cold and snowing when I brought her home in October so I put the boat right into storage. And its finally nice enough today that I brought her home, again.
There really was a boat inside that wrap.

Cuddy is really a mess. I need to put the curtains on and clean it up. Very dusty and there is mud on the carpeted walls.

Battle damage. These 4 rivets have been gouged. Do I need to worry about this or just paint them and forget about it?

Overall I'm like a kid at christmas. I am going to wash the boat and clean up the inside. I have numbers to apply and there are some minor rub marks I am going to polish out. As far as fit and finish go, do I treat a boat like a new truck? Should I complain about a minor scratch here and there? And the bottom of the keel is missing a thin line of paint where it has worn off from loading and unloading. Do I need to paint this or just leave it be. I imagine the first time I beach the boat the sand will do the same thing anyway.

Very nice boat. I love Islanders, and not that you'd ever think of selling it, but if you did, they're always in demand and go quick. As for the damaged rivets, that looks very superficial and in my opinion nothing I would lose sleep over at all. Put some touch up paint on the heads and forget about it.

That is a sweet boat, I would maybe bring up the rivets but if they don't, won't fix them it is really no big deal.

Having the boat for so long, you may have a problem getting that warrantied but worth a shot, that little bit of damage won't hurt anything, I have scared my boat way worse than that but it is several decades older than yours, very nice.

In that case, I am going to mention the rivets, but I will probably just touch it up and forget about it. If you fellows though in any way it was structural I would be forcing the issue. The dealer knows I wasn't going to unwrap it until the next year so I would have coverage. But it was probably the lift at the dealer that did this anyway.
Instructions. There really is nothing besides the very good merc manual. I am going to fumble my way through the installation of this full fishermans top.
And I'm going to clean the bilge. Lot of aluminum drill shavings and such in there.

Gorgeous boat. I'd certainly get on the horn and mention all of this stuff to your dealer. Maybe a letter as well to document it if you have issues with those rivets loosening up.

I'm sure you paid a fair chunk for that rig and starcraft owes new owners more than mud in the cabin and construction debris in the bilge. Some feedback from you might give them the opportunity to up their game a bit.

But most of all...get out and enjoy that beautiful boat!

Re: After 8 months I finally meet my new boat!

I revise my previous opinion regarding the rivets... For some reason when posting before I was thinking this was a new-to-you boat and not brand new. I'm surprised there are any unsold Islanders left since the last model year for them was 2010 (right?).

For a brand new boat, I would expect it to be pristine, so yeah, mud in the cuddy and gouged up rivets would not make me pleased and I would definitely let the dealer know about it. That being said, from your post I'm led to believe your dealer is on the other side of the country, so I'm not really sure what they will or can do for you to make it right.

My boat is a 2011 and is titled as such. And the certificate of origin from the factory also states its a 2011. I asked the dealer this question and was told they bought these boats as 2011 models but were told the factory would not be making Islanders for the time being. I have also heard rumors that Starcraft has Islander hulls and can keep them at the factory for years if they want. Then they put in a new engine, build the boat and title it when it leaves the factory.
I cleaned up the mud and gave it a wipe down. It looks great except for the rivet issue as mentioned above. Now I need to put that top up.
And I will post some pics of the cover I bought on iboats. It fits pretty good but I want to support it to prevent rain from pooling.

Congrats!!! Really nice looking boat, and ya it is kind of a bummer when you get something new and it's not perfect.

Its nowhere perfect. There is a lot of dust in the paint and rear starboard near the transom has sanding marks and runs? Pathetic really. I've painted a lot of vehicles in my day and my 7 year old could paint better than that. I'm guessing they touched this spot up after the decals as I can see the tape lines? But the dust and runs on this spot are embarrasing. I'm calling Starcraft and the dealer tomorrow.
